How to cope when your pet has been diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness during Covid19 – by Claire Chew, M.A., CCFS

It's been almost a year since the pandemic reared its ugly head. We've all had to adapt to so many new ways of living and being. Six feet apart, no hugs, masks, no masks, queue in lines for groceries, curfews, no indoor dining, take out only, etc. One positive thing has been having our furry family members with us during a lockdown. For those living alone, their pet may be the only physical touch source and hugs for months.  Just when we feel we can't take any more stress, a beloved pet is diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness. Because animals can't speak and tell us how they are feeling, we feel...

Home Memorial & Upcoming Concerts

Thought I'd share this video of our bedtime ritual - Pete gives them “bedtime biscuits” - and they will not go to sleep until they have had them. The noise is amazing - I’m tempted to make something percussive as a sample and write a song - I’m sure Pete would play the guitar. Exciting things happening - as you may have noticed, there is an Animal Requiem concert in February in Tallahassee, Florida - the first independent one. There are some rumours of shows in the spring in Assisi (home of St Francis) - and St Marks square in Venice.  Also, I have been working with the wonderful Claire Chew, who is a...

CONCERT – ROYCE HALL UCLA – OCTOBER 26TH

Jet lag and I do not get on so well together - I’m sorry for the delay in posting this - I’ve been binge watching Orange is the new Black whilst I normalise. The last week in LA was nuts! We did a triple header - a Who show at the Hollywood Bowl on the Thursday, a big fundraiser for Teen Cancer America on the Friday and the Animal Requiem concert on the Saturday (flew back to Blighty Sunday). The concert was magical - and the magic came from the people - the orchestra, the choir, the conductor, the soloists, Pete, Jane, the audience and a tiny bit my outfit. There was an area...

New Classical Tracks: Interview & Giveaway

"The grief is very real when you lose a pet who's been a member of your family - and you form this incredibly strong, unconditional bond that is very innocent and very pure" Honoured to be featured on New Classical Tracks this week. Interviewed by the wonderful Julie Amacher, we're having a chat about past and future works and collaborations, growing up with music, the Quadrophenia album, "Blackbird", the life-long love for animals and how we ended up with a big family of beautiful dogs. We're also having a discussion about the life events that inspired Animal Requiem - from playing music at a crematorium to rescuing and feeling the loss of animals...

SUPPORT

I've been here for nearly 3 weeks - I love LA, the sun, the dogs, the people, not so much the hills haha - As I have been away from my pack for three weeks, I am literally falling on every dog I see, ignoring the owner obviously, but I’ve had some great dog kisses - bad breath, sweet breath, fish breath, don’t even care. I've been to the Hollywood Bowl shows which have been amazing. Pete and I also went to a Tommy benefit concert at the La Jolla Playhouse - The animal requiem concert is approaching fast - I'm excited, but I’m also nervous. I really want people to enjoy it - can’t...

IT IS WORTH IT

On October 2nd of last year we said goodbye to our beautiful yorkie Wistle. Wistle had slept by my head and followed me to the toilet for 13 years and everything in between. And the loss of her broke my heart. Three days later, completely unexpectedly in the middle of the night, our poodle Cracker who was only 11, had a terrible seizure and also passed away. I think he had to be with her. Although they were not particlularly close, Cracker was the remaining one from our original pack. This overlaying of grief on top of grief was so heavy to bear. I had just finished writing the final track for...

LA CONCERT

Gearing up for the concert in Los Angeles on 26th October - I’m really excited about it - Pete is going to sing Blackbird and also play a few other animal related songs. I love him. Leaving for LA on Saturday - so spending final few days with my furry crew before I head off. I always miss them a lot but they stay with their Godfather Perry and we FaceTime. I also have this amazing thing called a furbo with a camera that throws treats for them - and I can do that anywhere in the world and speak to them! It's an amazing thing. Going to post regular blogs from LA -...

I’m totally obsessed with Peanut. Her and Pudding are like one person - I call them the P’s. I went away for a couple of days last week and I felt like a new mum. How did she sleep? what colour was her poo? etc....
